The outer rubber tube of the cable plays a fundamental role in good furnace and cable performance. The tube is in fact subject to significant stress, such as:
> mechanical stress and torsion
> intense electrodynamic stress
> internal abrasion
> significant thermal gradients
> aggressive chemical agents in fumes
It is therefore essential to choose the right rubber tube and mechanical or thermal protection, a choice which is made after performing a technical check in the steelworks.

ADDITIONAL THERMAL PROTECTION
As we all know, steelworks cables are subject to a huge amount of stress and sometimes it may be necessary to use additional protection covering the cable, to guarantee a greater resistance to heat and wear.
Four different types of outer protection are available, Silicon, Vermiculite, Aluminium or Pyrojacket which are wrapped around the rubber tube and held in place by zip ties and Velcro. This type of thermal protection does NOT offer good resistance to abrasion and should only be used with traditional bumpers.
The additional wear-proof hose provides notable thermal protection for the main tube without being susceptible to wear like standard thermal protection.
ADDITIONAL WEAR-PROOF PROTECTION
We can provide the most suitable solution to meet every specific case of wear by choosing from one of the following solutions:
♦ additional wear-proof tube which provides also thermal protection for the main tube
♦ vulcanized bumpers, also spiral bumpers
♦ "free" bumpers
♦ traditional rubber bumpers
ADDITIONAL MECHANICAL PROTECTION
In many cases the cable has to be protected from a huge amount of mechanical stress with very tight radiuses of curvature near the terminals. In this case stiffening hoses are used to absorb said stress.
